Teraanga Commons

A Name with Meaning

Formerly Residence Commons, this central hub of student life at Carleton University was renamed Teraanga Commons following engagement with African, Caribbean, and Black communities.

Teraanga (pronounced tare-ang-gah) comes from the Wolof language of Senegal and represents sharedness, civility, honour, and generosity of spirit. The name reflects a commitment to inclusion, culture, and collective belonging.
